Journey To Paleo

How are we going to live with out cake, candy or junk food? As Rebecca & I talked about changing our life by changing what we put into our bodies all I could think of was. NO SUGAR?!?! HOW!

Resistance. This is the first thing that came to mind when I was looking for a new lifestyle for my family. I found that my focus ended up being on what I would be lacking opposed to what I would be gaining by transitioning into a better way of life.

We all have been programed one way or another from a young age. I have jumped on the train with fad diets, and struggled to loose weight but the real focus needs to be, gaining health. It’s not about LOSS or LACK. It’s about GAIN & HEALTH.

When we push past discomfort success always follows. I feel the success of this lifestyle only a month in at this point.

Finding paleo happened by chance for my wife and I. I had completed a whole 30 (which is incredible! I highly recommend it) but I could not sustain the lifestyle long term.

I wanted to continue to eat real food and not go back to processed junk.

We now consider ourself 95% paleo, what does that mean?

It means that 18 days a year we allow ourselves to eat the junk food & processed foods. Our cravings are fulfilled with, sushi, candy, popcorn and so on.

For the other 347 days, we eat delicious whole foods. Our groceries include fruits, veggies, meat, coconut milk & honey. We have already become much better cooks, preparation isn’t always easy but every meal doesn’t have to be a  production. I am not saying that this isn’t a learning curve it totally is! Although it is a lot simpler then I anticipated.

Paleo Tips:

  • Be creative: grab a paleo cookbook or even the whole 30 cookbook
  • Make a dish you can eat when going to friends and family’s house
  • Try new foods
  • Have fun cooking
  • Buy a crockpot
  • Create an exciting grocery list
  • Enjoy your meals without interruption
